Perfumes On Nykaa – Are They Original?

There aren’t many online places in India where you can buy perfumes without having to worry about authenticity. I found myself struggling with a similar situation a few years ago when I wanted to buy full bottles but was scared to try them out. But I did it anyway.

My experience with buying perfumes on Nykaa has been good and they were 100% original. Nykaa sources its perfumes from top Indian distributors. However, I would always encourage you to record a video of unboxing if you are spending on expensive packages and check the expiry date of the product before and match after purchase.

Where Does Nykaa Source Their Perfumes?

Here are the 3 of the distributors/partners of Nykaa from which it sources the perfumes.

  • BACCAROSE Perfumes & Beauty Products Ltd: It won’t be a lie if I say that Baccarose is leading the beauty distribution industry in India, with its own retail brand PARCOS.If you reside in any part of India where brick-and-mortar PARCOS stores are not available, you will be happy to know that they now have an online presence where you can purchase all your beauty and luxury products.

Some of the perfume brands that Baccarose brings to the Indian market are Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, The Merchant of Venice, etc.

  • Tarz Distribution India Pvt Ltd: Tarz Distribution India Pvt. Ltd. is a well-known distributor of luxury products including perfumes among Indian e-commerce brands. Some of the perfume brands that this distributor brings to India include Dior, Davidoff, Marc Jacobs, Elizabeth Arden, Chloe, Burberry, etc.
  • L’Oréal India Pvt. Ltd: Who doesn’t know L’Oréal? In India, apart from offering L’Oréal Professional products, it also deals with some of India’s favourite perfume brands including Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Victor & Rofl, Valentino, etc.

How Do You Know A Perfume Bought From Nykaa Is Original?

  1. Comments: Before buying a certain perfume on Nykaa, you can check out the comments for that product. As far as my experience with Nykaa goes, these comments are real. People provide photos of their purchases, they write if they are unhappy, and I have commented on the app a few times myself.

Learn what these comments are about. If we are looking for the authenticity of the perfume, comments about how good or bad it smells will not help much. A fake product can still smell good, and a not-good-enough smell doesn’t mean the perfume is fake.

What I look for in the comments before buying perfumes from Nykaa is whether anyone is calling it out for being fake, or mentioning longevity. If someone is mentioning longevity, I try to match it up with its longevity stories with Fragrantica comments. This isn’t a foolproof technique in any way though.

  1. Your nose: Once you have bought the product, you can still check for its authenticity. This will mostly work if you have previously used the same fragrance or a fragrance from the same brand before. Whether in longevity or quality, your nose can tell you something even when you cannot tell for sure it’s a fake.

But make sure to consider factors like perfumes are reformulated often and the new perfume might smell different or offer a different experience than your old one.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to return a perfume once you have opened it unless it is a wrong, damaged or defective product.

Are Prices Reasonable?

Yes. The prices of perfumes in Nykaa often have reasonable prices. I did some comparisons with Myntra and Amazon and found prices on Nykaa to be cheaper than Myntra, but a little more than Amazon. However, often perfumes on Amazon are out of stock and have chances of being fake as there are many sellers and you don’t know which one is authentic.

Also, with coupons and discounts sometimes Myntra offers cheaper prices.

What Brands To Look Out For In Nykaa?

Are you looking for new perfumes to add to your wardrobe? Here are the top 5 brands to explore and my personal favourite from each of them.

  1. Kayali: Kayali perfumes are nothing if not long-lasting and smelling expensive. Trust me when I say this, even if one of Kayali perfumes’ scents doesn’t impress you, you still cannot deny how expensive and classy it smells.

If you want to try out Kayali for the first time, I would recommend Kayali Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper. But also make sure you are into floral scents because it’s gonna be just that. While I am not absolutely crazy about the scent, I have found many to compliment me on this.

  1. Sol de Janeiro: They go crazy about Sol de Janeiro. My personal favourite purchase of this brand in Nykaa is the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Jet Set, just like many other fragrance enthusiasts, I am sure. But if you don’t want to buy the whole set, I heard Brazilian Crush Cheirosa is pretty good too.
  1. Burberry: I am not sure if Indians exclusively look to wear Burberry perfumes, but I have only used one of their perfumes so far, and that is Burberry London. It’s rich and sexy, and definitely getting you compliments. But it’s definitely not the best in summer as it’s in cooler months.
  1. Marc Jacobs: My favourite from Marc Jacobs is this very romantic scent called Daisy. Something about it just reminds me of winter mornings. But don’t worry, you can wear it during summer morning as well. Personally, I think, this can be a good perfume for the office or other professional settings.
  1. Moi by Nykaa: Moi perfumes are Nykaa’s own perfume, and I have all of them. Most of these perfumes are dupes of some other high-end brands. Joie De Vivre, for example, smells somewhat of Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue, but it also more closely smells like Marks & Spencer’s Azure Breeze, which used to be my favourite perfume despite its poor longevity and is now discontinued.

My personal favourite from Nykaa’s Moi collection is Raison D’Etre Eau – while this doesn’t have great lasting power, it’s a flowery perfume that is super good for a sunny and wintery date.

Takeaway

Without any doubt, Nykaa is my go-to destination for anything beauty-related so far. While you often get good deals, note that big offers on Nykaa tend to be not satisfactory.
